Michael Jackson

About Michael Jackson

No single recording artist or entertainer — indeed, no movement or force — has eclipsed what Michael Jackson accomplished throughout his career as an entertainer.

Through sheer talent, drive and grit he broke down racial barriers that denied black artists mainstream media exposure through outlets such as MTV. His contributions to music, dance, and fashion made him a global figure and legendary icon in popular culture for over four decades.

His Thriller, released in 1982 is the best selling album of all time. He is also the most-awarded recording artist in popular music.

Outside of recording, Jackson constantly traveled the world attending events honoring his humanitarianism and the 2000 Guinness Book of Records recognized him for supporting 39 charities.

He also co-wrote the charity single We Are the World in 1985 with Lionel Richie, which was released worldwide to aid the poor in the U.S. and Africa. It became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with nearly 30 million copies sold and millions of dollars donated to famine relief. In 1986, “We Are the World” won four Grammys (one for Jackson for Song of the Year).

Michael Jackson was most certainly the King of Pop.
