About Rafael Casal

Rafael Santiago Casal a multi-talent from Oakland, California. His career consists of the following occupations: rapper, singer, producer, songwriter, playwright, poet, teacher and especially, actor.

Casal’s first solo album, As Good as Your Word, was released in 2008, followed by his LP, The Monster the next year.

In 2012, he released another album, Mean Ones that solely focused on his rapping background.

One of Casal’s best friends, Daveed Diggs has collaborated with him through all walks of life (mainly acting and music).

In music, the duo are known as The Getback starting from the 2010s, and even earlier on. They have released projects such as Mixtape Vol. I and The Bay Boy Mixtape. They released a collaboration project Seven Nights in Chicago, going by just their names, on August 9th, 2019. In acting, they are most known for their performances in the film Blindspotting, which hit theaters on January 18th, 2018. Another notable collaboration is the Hamilton musical.

Casal has been grinding for over 15 years and was featured on Russell SimmonsDef Poetry on HBO. He was also a national finalist champion for Brave New Voices Grand Slam Finals for 2 years turned coach.

Rafael operates, and is the brainchild, of the BARS Workshop, a theatre-in-verse program dedicated to honing the rap skills of up-and-coming writers and performers. He has been developing The Limp, a play about the contemporary examination of the relationship between love and male identity, among many more projects.
