The Waitresses

About The Waitresses

The Waitresses were a 1980s New Wave rock group from Akron, Ohio. They are best remembered for their Christmas classic “Christmas Wrapping” and their wry novelty hit “I Know What Boys Like.”

Formed in 1978 and gaining prominence in the early ‘80s, the group was noted for the deadpan vocals, courtesy of Patty Donahue (b. 1956; d. 1996), and their wry lyrics, penned by Chris Butler (b. 1949). They disbanded in late 1984 after Donahue’s departure.
