"The Last Ship" - Calling All Geordies

I just started on Sting’s “The Last Ship” but I don’t have a great grasp on it. If any English readers with a better grasp of the history want to give it a once over and edit my tragically American sensibilities it would probably help.

I’m not a Geordie, but I think you’ve got the history pretty spot on.

@Scottish-Lady might be able to help, and @JHGFD knows a lot about Sting…

Caveat emptor – I canny abide ‘Sting’…

But I’ve heard him on radio talking about this project, so I’m happy to look at it.

Newcastle is not far from me geographically. Very far culturally! Where the citizens wear almost no clothing even in snow or rain!

@Province studied at Newcastle University.

I actually image searched “Geordie” expecting to get, I dunno, a gently weeping coal miner or something, and variations on that picture were all that popped up. I know it’s pretty standard for the Jersey Shore set over here, but to rock a spray tan like that in one of the coldest, darkest, places on earth is… pretty bold.

Honestly, @Haole they must not feel the temperature dropping. Men do it too – vest type teeshirts, or even no clothing above the waist. I’ve been there on a winter night and it’s not a myth, I promise!

@Haole The Jersey Shore comparison is a good one…

Eight seasons? That’s terrifying.

@Vesuvius Ashamed as I am, we have our own version – Geordie Shore!
