is he actually underrated though? i feel like maybe a lot of people just don’t realize who he is / how next-level he is but those who do know of him give him TONS of credit (myself included)

@notero “i feel like maybe a lot of people just don’t realize who he is / how next-level he is”

I guess that’s where the underrated part comes in. He doesn’t get the credit and recognition he deserves from a broader group of people.

truly. feel you. sadly i think a lot of it comes from being in bands and frontmen getting the most shine. consider even the amazing sound of motown. pretty much every hit for what? 3 decades? and so few people know who the Funk Brothers are. they’re THE sound of motown!

btw are you a RHCP fan? have you read kiedis’s biography? i just did and it was fantastic. lots of interesting insight into his relationship w/ john

Never thought of him as underrated. He gets tons of well deserved credit.

As a guitarist?

I agree, I feel as if his guitar playing is very good, bringing lots of influences from artists such as Jimi Hendrix and infusing with funk rock / alternative rock rhythms played by RHCP. As for his solo career guitar playing, I haven’t listened to enough of his discography to make a well balanced judgement, but from what I’ve heard he plays a different style than that of Blood Sugar Sex Magik for example.

Wouldn’t go as far as call him a “genius” though.

My age shows. I had to Google him.

At least I know the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You’d have my hide if I didn’t. :p
