This Week in Rock: April 14-20

So a bunch of the channels have daily/weekly breakdowns so I thought I would start to do the same for Rock!

I’ll usually do them on Sundays, but tomorrow’s Easter so I’m going to get a head start on this first one. This is gonna be a looong one and some of last week’s stuff may be included since there wasn’t a breakdown last week.

Songs

  • “West Coast” by Lana Del Rey – her first single from the upcoming album! Getting some major traffic and winning the google search war thanks to @BigBadBonj and @chihuahua0 (and others) for being on top of the transcription and killing the annotations! Segue: “West Coast” was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys…
  • “Turn Blue” by The Black Keys – the second single from their upcoming album of the same name Turn Blue (so meta but good). Shoutout to our new modbrother @BasedGator for the #BasedTranscription
  • “The Breakdown” by Prince – new Prince?? He dropped this one late last night after his new record deal.
  • “The Mechanism” by Disclosure x Friend Within – obscure samples!
  • “Ezra’s Interlude” by Chromeo – Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend on a short interlude for Chromeo’s upcoming album White Women
  • Thanks to @Thom and @BigBadBonj we finally have “My Love” by Route 94 and Jess Glynne up and annotated, which is difficult due to its minimal/repetitive lyrics. It’s hugely popular song and we’ve almost got 1k views already so well done!
  • “Gunshot” by Lykke Li – thanks to @chrissy for the transcription!
  • “To The Top” by Twin Shadow – shoutout @Maboo for enlightening Rock chat with this 80’s sounding ballad

Albums

  • Lights Out by Ingrid Michaelson – shoutout to @chihuahua0 for the overlooked forum post, let’s get on it!
  • I’m not a fan of country music, but Jessie James Decker (NFL player Eric Decker’s wife @sports-genius) dropped an EP called Comin Home that seems to be kinda popular, so if you like country you could check that out and add it to RG please

Other

  • Check out these awesome Coachella posters by Jeremy Fall and Jonni Cheatwood with verified annotations!

Obviously I missed some stuff and people so show love below, keep it up Rock family! @rap-genius-editors

P.S. he’s more R&B, but Sway Clarke II is a fantastic singer that I’ve been listening to lately.

Check out his great new tracks “Secret Garden” and “I Don’t Need Much” – they’re AWESOME

Dope!!!

Really think the Rock Forum needs this kind of focus, good job man! I’ll try and be on the lookout for new stuff to include in this :)

Just transcribed Hideaway by Kiesza (At the suggestion of @UnBalanced which seems like a potential hit as well (If anyone wants to jump on that – hint hint

@Brock Mr Clarke is fantastic from what I’ve heard! Loved Tears Run Dry, such emotion in that hook.

Love to @BigBadBonj for the Kiesza transcription – I’ve been hard at work on Example’s new single which I’ll be promoting throughout the coming months cause this could rack up tons of views.

So could “Every Little Word” by MNEK, which I transcribed literally minutes after it premiered. Unfortunately some other sites have jacked my text and they’re higher than us in Google though…

Thanks @BigBadBonj! Feel free to lemme know if there is something you need to add.

@UnBalanced with new songs the best way to win the google search war is tofollow these steps as soon as you can:

  1. Transcribe
  2. Add 1-2 solid annotations
  3. Add an SLA (description box)
  4. Pyonggg
  5. Make a forum post

That way it has good info, gets some exposure, and encourages others to contribute!

@Brock Let me add another point to that list:

  1. Share on social media.

Google factor in social shares like tweets and likes, and it also exposes it to an outside audience, so if you have a Twitter, Facebook, or any other account, share RG stuff every once in awhile.

Oh, by the way, does anyone have a clue on what “Hideaway” means? I found a few interviews, but none of them discussed any of the lyrics. (Annoying for us.)

My interpretation is that it’s about friends with benefits (“you’re just a hideaway), but it could just be a straight-up love song. What’s your theory, and which one should we stick with?

April 20th, 2014

Good call @chihuahua0, just wasn’t added due to the fact that not everyone has access. If that’s the case, feel free to tag @social-promotion and they might help ya out!
