Who's worse, Lorde or Lana Del Rey?

They both make pretentious, substandard, pseudo-artistic drivel, but which one is worse?

I disagree, I like them both. Expand your horizons fam.

I am definitely not the right person to answer this haha

April 22nd, 2014

I’d rather listen to Lil' Debbie.

All music is pretentious haha.

Lorde has some good tunes. I find something about her a little irritating (I think it stems from the insistence that Auckland is “a torn up town” and similar), but she’s definitely got talent.

I haven’t really listened to Lana so I can’t comment.

You’re lucky you weren’t asking about rappers on the causal Rap Genius forum, or you’ll be torn apart.

Welcome to the community, but some advice: It’s better to start a discussion by leaving most of the negativity at home. It doesn’t help your thread by using words adjectives “pretentious, substandard, pseudo-artistic drivel”, as many of us are fans of both.

So if you wanted to start a discussion bashing both, you should bring it up in a different place. I love Lorde and Lana, and I don’t think you’re going to change your mind about both, so I’ll say…

Actually, I have one comment: People are a bit too hard on what is pretentious. It can be bad, if it rubs it into the face of “lower” entertainment, but Lorde and Lana don’t do that.

If you hate it, avoid it. You can debate it, but only with good intentions, and the OP doesn’t present good intentions.

.This is presuming OP isn’t a troll, I hope.

I’m not a fan of either one, but I don’t outright hate them like OP obviously does.

They’re both fantastic artist’s.. Lorde is only 17 and she’s achieved about as much as Lana already who’s 26, as well as probably most kids her age and older, she’s got a bright future, a beautiful voice and she can write songs. Lana is also an amazing singer who writes songs, many songs, she’s wrote hundreds. The only difference between them is, Lana has a heart of gold, where as Lorde just enters the show biz out of no where at the age of 16 just slating off every artist she speaks of here and there in interviews and tweets, she has also lied about her past life, where she’s from and about her wealth on the tv in interviews and on radios, claiming she was poor and lived in a poor area which she claimed her hit song “Royals” was reflecting, when actually her parents are quite rich and she lived in the richest area of new Zealand known to man.

April 22nd, 2014

I am a Lorde stan, and I don’t really like Lana’s music that much, so…

April 23rd, 2014

I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of Royals. But I loved the rest of Pure Heroine and her EP.
LDR makes amazing sensual music. Her lyrics are cliche at times, definitely, but that doesnt bother me. Very atmospheric stuff. Listening to Summertime Sadness rn

This really is a great forum. Seems like people here can form a discussion. I’m staying

I like both however I go with Lana Del Rey. I prefer Born To Die and Paradise > Pure Heroine. Pure Heroine was ok. I only liked Royals, Ribs, Buzzcut Season, Team, and A World Alone. I’m currently mad at her at the moment because she destroyed the Tears For Fears' Everybody Wants To Rule The World cover and that is my favorite song of the 80s. Lana Del Rey has better songwriter skills and very diverse with her lyrics. Lorde on the other hand (basing off the music she has realised so far) only talks about the struggles and hating the mainstream and shit. Team is my favorite song by hers and I know I will get shit for that since it’s a single.

@Hybrid27 My favourite Lorde songs are “Tennis Court”, “Royals”, and “Team”, in that order. Er, yeah, I like singles. But isn’t what kinda the point with mainstream pop music?

Along with Tennis Court and Buzzcut Season – this is definitely one of my favourites!

Ooh! A Lorde discussion!

My favorite songs by her are “Glory and Gore” and “Buzzcut Season”. After that, follows “Team”, “Bravado”, “Royals” and “White Teeth Teens”. The only songs from her I don’t like are “Biting Down” and “The Love Club”.
