About A Cappella

A Cappella is music entirely made up of vocal noises and no instrumentation.

While not released often commercially, barbershop is a style that dates back to the 1800s. The Barbershop Harmony Society, founded April 11, 1938, holds contests for this style of music. Mike Rowe, of Dirty Jobs fame, is an Honorary Life Member, he also spoke about barbershop on this podcast episode.

More recently, many a cappella groups have become popular thanks to the TV show The Sing-Off.
