About Jazz

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

American music developed especially from ragtime and blues and characterized by propulsive syncopated rhythms, polyphonic ensemble playing, varying degrees of improvisation, and often deliberate distortions of pitch and timbre

Jazz has its roots in the African-American communities of the Southern United States during the early 20th century. Having evolved away from Blues and Ragtime, the genre saw the peak of its commercial success in the mid-to-late 20th century.
