Though Street-Legal came just before Dylan’s conversion to Christianity, “Señor” – like the rest of the album – is imbued with religious and apocalyptic meaning. It’s one of Dylan’s darker, self-reflective songs, similar to later works like “Not Dark Yet” and “Things Have Changed”.
