Bottom of a Bottle Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Been scared and lonely
I've asked myself, is something wrong with you?
My girlfriend told me
I need some time alone to deal with issues

[Pre-Chorus]
But something makes me carry on
It's difficult to understand why I always wanna fly

[Chorus]
I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
Do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle

[Verse 2]
You always call me
And ask me how I make it through the day
I'm always fallin'
I guess it's just God's way of making me pay

[Pre-Chorus]
But something makes me carry on
It's difficult to understand why I always wanna fly
[Chorus]
I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
Do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle
I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
Do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle

[Bridge]
When I, I wonder why I try
And I, I wonder why I bother
And I, I wonder why I cry
Why I, I go through all this trouble

[Chorus]
I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
Do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle
I do it for the drugs
I do it just to feel alive
Do it for the love
That I get from the bottom of a bottle

About

Genius Annotation

“Bottom of a Bottle” is the first track, and lead single, off of Smile Empty Soul’s self-titled debut album.

The song deals with alcoholism and drug addiction through the eyes of a protagonist going through them. The protagonist is an isolated individual, with his girlfriend recently separating from him and not having another social outlet. In order to fill the emptiness in his life, he turns to drugs and alcohol.

He later receives calls from his girlfriend, who wonders how he makes it through day-to-day life. The protagonist believes his situation is due to negative things he has done in the past and starts dealing with suicidal ideation, wondering what the point is of remaining alive as there is no light at the end of the tunnel that he sees.

By the end of the song, he is still dealing with those addictions and his depression, never moving on from what happened.
