Intension Lyrics
Pure as we begin
Pure as we come in
Pure as we begin
Move by will alone
[Verse 2]
Pure as we begin
Here we have a stone
Gather, place and raise, so
Shelter turns to home
[Verse 3]
Pure as we begin
Here we have a stone
Throw to stay the stranger
Swore to crush his bones
[Chorus]
Move by will alone
[Verse 4]
Spark becomes a flame
Flame becomes a fire
Light the way or warm this
Home we occupy
Spark becomes a flame
Flame becomes a fire
Forge a blade to slay the stranger
Take whatever we desire
[Chorus]
Move by will alone
Pure as we begin
[Instrumental Bridge]
[Chorus]
Pure as we begin
Move by will alone
Leave as we come in
Pure as light, return to one
Move by will alone
Move by will alone
About
“Intension” is the ninth song on 10,000 Days, the fourth studio album by heavy metal band Tool. It continues the more progressive style found on the majority of this album and their more recent work.
This song is about the development of human consciousness and the beginning of human evolution. It juxtaposes the purity of human consciousness with the destructive and corrupt desires of selfishness and base instincts. It is connected to the next song in the album, “Right In Two,” which expands on these selfish desires.
As stated here previously,
“Intension” seems to be about the beginning of our creation and giving the definition, I think its about how in the beginning there were infinite possibilities of what we could become. Then “Right in Two” is what we actually have become. Its the “Extension” to the “Intension” if you will."
