Suspicious Minds Lyrics
We're caught in a trap, I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
[Chorus]
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (With suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
[Verse 2]
So if an old friend I know stops by to say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eyes?
Here we go again, asking where I've been
You can't see the tears are real, I'm cryin' (Yes, I'm cryin')
[Chorus]
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (With suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
[Bridge]
Oh, let our love survive
I'll dry the tears from your eyes
Let's don't let a good thing die
When, honey, you know I've never lied to you
Mmm, yeah, yeah
We're caught in a trap, I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see what you're doin' to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
[Outro]
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Well, don't you know I'm caught in a trap? I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby

In an interview with Marc Myers for the book Anatomy of a Song, Mark James remembered that Elvis seemed uncomfortable with his presence at the recording session for the song, but later showed gratitude:
In the years that followed, whenever I saw Elvis, he’d cross the room just to say hello to me, no matter who was with him. After he died, I heard that after recording “Suspicious Minds,” he’d always ask the guys in the studio, “Did Mark send me any more songs?” Golly, I wish I had known that.
This song has been re-covered plenty of times, but, in two cases, the cover artists have shown all their creativity in paying tribute to the King: in fact, Italian singer-songwriter Luciano Ligabue completely re-writed the text in Italian, creating “Ultimo Tango a Memphis;” (“Last Tango In Memphis”) on the other hand, the Italian rock band Elio e le Storie Tese crafted the track “Ignudi fra i nudisti” (“Naked Between The Nudists”) by playing the arrangement of the original Elvis' version in full reverse and, consequently, writing a text which followed the sound of “Suspicious Minds"‘ words almost perfectly.
