It goes even further than that. The pervasive Biblical notion that somehow sex within marriage, particularly for reproduction is a purpose in life, further discriminates against those who have no sexual desire whatsoever – Asexuals. While many within religion despise a “consumptive rather than productive” view – it still upholds “productive” as the main goal, regardless of whether one is consumptive. What of those who do not even fall into the spectrum?

Yes, imperfect use is what you imagine–pulling out after ejaculation, or at least during it. The key is to figure out the right timing, which might require some self-practice.

The idea of spending a lifetime running could refer either to ‘hits the ground running’ – that is takes action immediately after making love to a woman or in response to a challenge – or it could be the idea that he has been running away from permanent commitment. The first implies the physical strength and ability of the superhero, and the second could be of a man incapable of emotional completeness, afraid to commit himself.

Bond is not falling in love for the first time. In Casino Royale (spoiler alert!) he falls in love with Vesper Lynd. He decides he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and sends his resignation to M. It is only after she drowns that he resumes his job as a secret agent.
Yes, I know, why even point this out? It feels like I’m nitpicking every little fault. I mean, its not like this is the end of the world. It won’t really change much. But, I couldn’t help it. I am a perfectionist after all ;)

I also want to add that dissociation is often caused by substance abuse, which Sia has said she has struggled with, further cementing the possibility that this verse is about dissociation.

I thought this was a reference to dissociation, especially depersonalization, a mental disorder that often comes from a traumatic event that cannot be escaped. Its symptoms can include feeling a disconnect from the world around you, or feeling like you’re not real or not in control of your body. This also works for the next line “I saw my life in a stranger’s face, it was mine.” because as I mentioned before, dissociation can cause a person to feel as if they are not in control of their body, or like they’re watching themselves from outside of it.

‘The back of her mind’ is a strange place because it is the same place she spent her childhood (as mentioned in the first lines).

This hellish, barren landscape represents depression and anxiety. The growthless ground and changeless winds are metaphors for thwarted creativity. This is a place where you lie to yourself about your self-worth.

Both Adele and Sia went through periods where their emotions were so low, they craved their self-loathing. Despite these difficult times, they grabbed onto music and sang/wrote their way into happier times.

This song was originally written for Adele, so this “where all the demons go” part might be referring to Adele being in a place where no one wants to be with her because of her breakups. So she now tells everyone she’s still alive and breathing and that she won’t be knocked down by anything or anyone.

A place where all the demons go could also be a reference to the love of flesh rather than the love of the spirit.
