A bright, clear day is ideal, akin to Lana’s blissful romance. Like how people enjoy perfect weather, she perceives a perfect relationship.
When problems (storms) do roll around, she and her man find the metaphorical eye of the hurricane. It’s similar to the dark’s day, the debacle’s upside. While it doesn’t last, at least happiness occupies their love.
“In the eye we’ll stay” may hold a double meaning in sounding like “in Thee I will stay,” a prayer-like restatement in Biblical language of the song’s major theme: Lana’s quasi-religious devotion to her man.
That’s a topic that deserves its own article, but let me remind you that The Beatles popularized the concept album with *Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band * – even if it strayed from the concept.
