In what has been a harrowing time for the singer/songwriter/model, Sky Ferreira released a statement via her Facebook about her detractors accusing her of being racist in terms of the visuals for ‘I Blame Myself’.

Because I have pale skin & green eyes doesn’t mean I was raised in Beverly Hills and have Swedish film investor parents or whatever some have created in their minds. Would you feel more at ease if I danced with a bunch blonde white boys at a mall? Should I consciously only cast white dancers for now on? If I’m racist does that mean you’re pro-segregation?!

This is a great response. Not perfect, but great points.

This reminds me too much of the “Hard Out Here” by Lilly Allen controversy, which was unwarranted (since not all of the dancers were white). This is apart of being in a world struggling with what’s racist and what’s not, and I hope we discuss this more.

I’ll leave annotations if I have time.
